Resumen:
Climate change and biodiversity decline are majorchallenges of our time. Both are predominantly causedby human activities, with profound consequences forpeople and the ecosystems on which we depend. In2021, major United Nations conferences on biodiversity(COP15i) and on climate change (COP26ii) will be held, providing an opportunity for Governments to focusinternational attention on the interconnectedness andinterdependence of climate change and biodiversity. Some policy measures are beneficial in both areas, helping to mitigate and adapt to climate change as wellas conserve and restore biodiversity, while others canbe positive in one sphere but negative in the other. Thisbriefing examines these interconnections and outlineshow measures that benefit biodiversity have the potentialto support climate action, and how some aspects of climateaction can support biodiversity. It also discusses instanceswhere addressing one issue inappropriately can undermineefforts to enhance the other.
