During four of the cruises of the Japanese research vessel Shinkai Maru, a very rich and diversified collection of bryozoans was obtained from a large area comprising most of the Argentine continental shelf and the Burdwood Bank. In this paper, a total of 46 Cheilostome and 4 Cyclostome species is recorded. Of these, four -Electra pilosissima, Smittipora angustilobata, Flustrapora magellanica and Talivittaticella frigida- are new records for the western South Atlantic. The ovicell and avicularia of Flustrapora magellanica are described for the first time. The affinities of Foveolaria terrifica, Romancheina labiosa, Lacerna hosteensis and Sertella magellensis with related species are discussed. Illustrations and maps of distribution including present and previous records are given for all species.
