Resumen:
The book has technical descriptions of surgeries and surgical models in rats, applied to different fields of biomedical and biological research. The description of each surgery includes: objective and possibilities of application,  surgical materials, procedures, inconveniences, predetermined outcomes and experimental results obtained by the authors. In some cases, contingency plans are described, in order to solve inconveniences. Self-explanatory figures accompany the text as well as a CD with high resolution photographs of the described surgeries, in a stepwise sequence.  All surgeries described in the book have been used by the authors and are reported in international journals, where sometimes the information is incomplete and difficult to reproduce, because of the lack of figures and details. The manual includes the references where the different techniques were used.   As stated above, the information about surgeries in rats is often incomplete. This manual fills the gap, providing all details to be taken into account before, during and after surgery. Most of the techniques described are general ones, making the information interesting for researchers of different fields of biomedical and biological sciences, especially for those who carry out in vivo experiments with rats. This book contains the situation when a surgery can be used, how to do it, and the results that will be obtained following the described procedure. Clear and complete descriptions of different experimental models in vivo and in vitro are included. The book is focused on obtaining data for pharmacologycal and pathophysiological research.
