Resumen:
The use of zerovalent iron nanoparticles (nZVI) or nanostructured iron oxides (nFeOx) is a rather new technology for the treatment of contaminated land and water (surface and groundwater). This technology can be widely adopted as a rapid, highly effective, and low-cost alternative to conventional remediation technologies. However, several steps should be first envisaged to solve some remaining problems for a wide application, such as the lack of instability of free nanoparticles, or difficulties for injection in soil to achieve good contact of the nanoparticles with the subsurface groundwaters.
