Understanding ancient Andean villagers? animal use requires a multi evidence approach and a long archaeofaunal record. Both requisites are present in the faunal assemblages from southern Calchaquíes valleys. Therefore in ?Zooarqueología del sur de los valles Calchaquíes (Provincias de Catamarca y Tucumán, República Argentina): Análisis de conjuntos faunísticos del primer milenio A.D.?  the use of faunal resources is evaluated, with special emphasis on southamerican camelids, during the first millennium A. D.  The analysis of archaeofaunal assemblages from several archeological sites domestic contexts focuses on taphonomic aspects, the composition of the faunal assemblages, the identification of domestic and wild animals in those contexts, and their variation trough time. The study concludes with a discussion of the ancient economy of the region and camelid use tendencies.
