Objectives: This research aims to analyze the level of discrimination in divorce and its contrasts between countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Organization of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), and countries of high global impact.Methodology: Factors influencing change in the effectiveness of the State in protecting the person in marriage and divorce are examined in a set of 67 countries by total and percentage of the world´s population classified by religion; the percentage of the Muslim population and the value of the Gender and Social Institutions Index.Results: Lags in the effectiveness of the State in protecting women are associated with maximum levels of discrimination in divorce in most of the selected OIC.Conclusions: The research concludes that the lags associated with maximum levels of discrimination in divorce in most OIC countries affect the overall development of society due to their impact on the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly the goal referred to ?whether or not there are legal frameworks to promote, enforce and monitor gender equality and women´s empowerment?.
