Descripción:
Present report is an extension of the previous report already posted and includes the progress in mold and gating system design for the evaluation of the influences of metallostatic pressure on the skin and the mechanical properties. The evaluation of two different designs are included, a design “A” which corresponds with the vertical stacked mold proposed by the committee and a design “B” which is a modification of the vertical design previously used. Simulation parameters are the same as presented in previous report. The purpose of these works was to obtain thin test samples, with different metallostatic pressure and the same cooling rate in all the samples, therefore the only variable to be considered is the metallostatic pressure. On previous designs, already reported, it was not possible to obtain the same cooling rate in all the samples and another difficult was that the cooling rate for the thin samples was very high (above 10K/s) and according one of the considerations for the design, cooling rate should be around ten times higher that the cooling rate measured in a standard U block, which is 0.5K/s. Stacked mold design was introduced as an easy alternative for obtaining many samples with only one pattern. The mold includes diverse layers, which are stacked all together. The complete mold can be tilted for improving the filling capabilities. Base on the result reached using the stacked mold, new attempts on molding design were made having as a goal a uniform cooling rate for all the test samples to be poured.
