Descripción:
Incretins potentiate glucose-induced insulin secretion. They can further stimulate islet neogenesis and decrease â-cell apoptosis in rats under some conditions (1, 2), being GLP-1 one of the main responsible for such effects. Administration of DPP-IV inhibitors can mimick some of these effects in animal models of diabetes as well as in people with diabetes (3). Administration of a fructose-rich diet (F) to normal rats induces insulin resistance and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or diabetes, depending on the duration of the treatment (4). Administration of DPP-4 inhibitors to F-fed rats could prevent the development of IGT or diabetes.
