Rock Magnetic properties, paleosecular variations and relative paleointensity studies of short sediment cores from Laguna Potrok Aike (Santa Cruz, Argentina)

Late Holocene paleomagnetic secular variation and a relative paleointensity records are presented for Laguna Potrok Aike. High-resolution analyses were conducted on eight sediment cores which represent the last 1600 years. This study is important in order to complete the paleosecular variation and paleointensity type curves for South America (e.g. Irurzun et al., 2008, 2009) which do not have a detailed record for the last millennium. This investigation contributes to a better understanding of the long paleoenvironmental record recovered in 2008 that will be studied from the Pali Aike Volcanic Field in the framework of the ICDP-project “Potrok Aike Maar Lake Sediment Archive Drilling Project” (PASADO).
