Resumen:
Background: In previous studies, we have demonstrated that zinc deficiency during pregnancy and postnatal life increased systolic blood pressure and induced cardiovascular alterations associated to oxidative and inflammatory processes in males. Females did not show significant heart alterations. Aim: Evaluate the cardiac renin angiotensin system as a possible mechanism involved in left ventricle remodeling in adult rats exposed to zinc deficiency during fetal and postnatal life.Methods: Female Wistar rats fed either control (C,30 ppm) or low zinc (L, 8 ppm) diets from pregnancy to offspring weaning. C male and female offspring continued with a control diet (Ccm and Ccf respectively), whereas L male and female offspring fed control (Lcm and Lcf) or low zinc (Llm and Llh) diets. At day 81, Angiotensin (Ang) II, Ang-1-7 levels by radioimmunoassay; Angiotensin converting enzyme 1 (ECA1), ECA2 and AT1-receptor (AT1-R) expression by RT-qPCR; AT2-R and AT1-R expression by western blot and immunohistochemistry were measured in left ventricle.
