Resumen:
Very long ceramides have been shown to have different effects from symmetric ceramides in cancer cells: while symmetric ceramides induce apoptosis, very long ceramides allow for the survival of the cancer cell1. We have studied in detail the effects of very long ceramides in model membranes displaying liquid ordered – liquid disordered phase coexistence and compared them to those of symmetric ceramides. We have found striking differences at compositions that should be physiologically relevant.
