Resumen:
In recent years our interactions, habits and institutions have experienced great transformations in relation to the ways in which gender, sex and sexualities are understood. The impact and ramifications of such changes have spread throughout the social fabric, eroding the current meaning of those concepts in favor of interpretive resources that better capture the diversity of human experience and are consistent with international human rights law (Yogyakarta Principles, 2007). Regarding gender identity, numerous national and international regulatory instruments in the LATAM region have echoed these transformations, as is the case of Argentina, Colombia 1 , Uruguay 2 , Mexico City 3 and Costa Rica 4 , among others. However, meanings owing to a previous way of life have all but vanished. Rather, a certain inertia keeps them alive, generating tensions and challenges that also reach social movements that promote progressive agendas.
