Sectoral price and quantity indexes of argentine foreign trade

The aim of this paper is to show a methodology to estimate foreign trade indexes, based on data from Foreign Trade Consultation System of INDEC, which do not collects prices but unit values. This methodology is applied to the quarterly data of Argentine imports and exports disaggregated by 2-digit sectors of ISIC classification and its accuracy is shown from the comparison with INDEC and Brazilian price indexes. Finally, the sectoral contribution to the evolution of foreign trade during 1996-2016 is analyzed using the estimated quantity indexes.
