Resumen:
Aims: To provide a diagnosis regarding the perceived concerns and threats of thehealthcare workers facing treatment of patients with COVID-19 in Argentina, alsoanalyzing how these issues affect their psychological wellbeing. Method: During thethird week (April 4-10) of mandatory quarantine, a questionnaire was administered to809 people who were healthcare workers from all over the country, both women andmen, mean age 42.84,SD = 10.68). The developed questionnaire covered: socio-demographic data, questions related to concerns of health personnel about facingpatients with coronavirus, and indicators of depression, anxiety, intolerance ofuncertainty, and coping. Results: Main worries of these healthcare workers were thepossibility of infecting their loved ones (84%), followed by the possibility of infectingthemselves (65%). Also, 76% considers that the work environment worsened, and 77%that it would help them to count with a mental support staff in their workplace.Conclusions: The healthcare workers showed increased levels in indicators ofdepression, anxiety, and intolerance of uncertainty and developing dysfunctionalstrategies of coping.These results show the need for preventive contingencyinterventions targeted to healthcare workers to preserve their mental health wellbeingand the quality of the therapies that they apply to patients with COVID-19.
