Resumen:
We focus on a signaling system with no explicit negative feedback and a structure ensuring bistability. It is established that bistability is possible due to an underlying positive feedback. We study minimal additions to the system, representing its connection with a signaling pathway, like the activation of an enzyme. This produces sequestration of the proteins in the cycle, in turn producing a (not explicit) NF. The result is a minimal signaling system combining both PF and NF (shown to generate relaxation-type oscillations. We show that both feedbacks together also ensure a smooth type of oscillations in a narrow range of frequencies, and even more, that both feedbacks are essential for both oscillatory types to emerge.
