Resumen:
Sixty-one patients with congenital syphilis(CS) are presented. At diagnosis the median age was 2 month. Bone alterations were found in 36/61 (59%); hepatosplenomegaly in 33/61(54,1%); anemia in 30/51 (58,8%)?. Skin alterations .., abnormal urinalysis in 15/45 (33,3% )of patients . Fifty patients underwent lumbar puncture , the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) studied were abnormal (reactive VDRL and/or alterations of cell count, glucose or protein)in 10% .. At diagnosis, children? serum VDRL titers were compared with those of their mother: there were 63,5% higher, being 21/36 fourfold higher and 2/36 twofold higher. Fifty -one percent of pregnant had no prenatal control; 5% with incomplete control. Two pregnant received penicilin therapy. Because there is an increased number of reported case of CS, we emphasize the importance of prenatal care in order to avoid this preventable disease.
