Resumen:
Regardless of the evolution of money, some passages of Aristotle?s works shedlight on its meaning and nature. This paper will attentively consider these passages andlink them with contemporary visions about the essence of money. The first sectionpresents Aristotle?s thoughts on money: a universal sign of need, instantiated in specificconventional currencies. While the second section deals with its conventional nature, the third draws from the theories on signs elaborated by John Poinsot, Gottlob Frege, and Charles Peirce to explain the symbolic nature of money. Finally, the last sectionanalyses money as a unit of measurement.
