Resumen:
Land-use changes in Mar del Plata city (Partido de Gral. Pueyrredon) were recognized by the mean of vertical photographs obtained from the Corona KH4 and compared to modern images Landsat TM. Photographs and images were resampled to Gauss-Kruger coordinates and converted into polygons in an ArcView system. Five land covers were introduced in this comparison: 1) urban high density, 2) urban low density, 3) parcels defined for sale, 4) intensive productive fields (agriculture and cattle), and 5) water resources (ponds, lagoons and creeks). These categories comprised 10.9 % of the area of the county in 1965 and increase to 15.2 % in 1999. Individually, category 4 (intensive productive fields) has the greater increment (from 2.1 to 4.6 %). Low density urban areas also increase significantly from 3.5 to 5.3 %. High density urban areas increase from 2.3 to 4.5 %. The fractionated parcels decrease from 2.7 to 0.6 %).The only land cover that became reduced corresponds to the water resources (0.2 % in 1965 and 0.15 % in 1999). These areas were incorporated into the pluvial network of the city but the areas subject to floods have increased.
