The purpose of this presentation is to contribute to the workshop´s main theme (?Money, finance and the extraction of value in the Global South?) by looking at the specific role of the ?Global South? in the dynamics of the capitalist world market. Although I will probably not say much about the part played by money and finance in this process, I do hope to shed light on the question of the ?extraction of value in the Global South?. Theoretically, the discussion will be framed in a particular reading of the Marxian critique of political economy developed the auspices of the Centre for Research as Practical Criticism (CICP), based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and especially the work of the independent scholar Juan Iñigo Carrera.
