Abstract/Resumen: Shiga toxin (Stx) producing Escherichia coli (STEC) is responsible for bloody diarrhea, hemorrhagic colitis and hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). HUS mainly affects children under 5 years old and it is characterized by kidney and brain damage caused by Stx.
