Power generation based on renewable sources makes a significant contribution to mitigate issues such as pollution, scarcity andprices of fossil fuels. In that regard, the potential of photovoltaic solar energy and the benefits of studying its uses in currentgeneration systems are remarkable. Photovoltaic power stations, especially those of large size, present some issues underdifferent types of shading, both static and dynamic, which cause changes in the morphology of the output curve and its peakpower. Many times these characteristics are overlooked at the design stage of the power station, affecting negatively its overallperformance. In this work, the aforementioned aspects are considered for their simulation, analysis, and optimization of the powerstation design. For optimization, in particular, artificial intelligence techniques were proposed which successfully solved theproblems raised. It is relevant and noteworthy to mention that, in comparison to measurements taken from power plants that arecurrently in operation, very promising results were obtained.
