Resumen:
At the individual level, interictal EEG discharge-combined BOLD-fMRI studies in epilepsy do not reliably reveal signal changes within the irritative zone (1). At the group level, however, signal patterns were identified typical of specific epilepsy syndromes (2) suggesting the interictal presence of network alterations characteristic of different epilepsy types. Subsequently, a variety of connectivity changes were described for different epilepsy syndromes (3). Here, we test the hypothesis that via multivariate pattern analysis of alterations in whole brain fMRI measures can assist in the classification of different epilepsy syndromes independent of interictal EEG discharges: healthy controls vs. left and right temporal lobe (TLE) and extra-temporal lobe (XTLE) epilepsy patients, TLE patients vs. XTLE patients and left TLE vs. right TLE patients.
