Resumen:
Background? Large scientific, political and financial efforts are being put into collaborative brain research (Devor et al., 2013).? Resting state fMRI data mining is state of the art in the assessment of endogenous neuronal activity and the search for biomarkers (Biswal et al., 2010).? But: the resting state inherently is uncontrolled and its heterogeneity neither sufficiently understood nor accounted for.? Hypothesis I: subjects exhibit unstable wakefulness, i.e. drift into sleep during a typical resting state experiment? Hypothesis II: the resting brain functional architecture differs significantly between wakefulness and the different (NREM) sleep stages
