Food products containing a high level of moisturegenerate detection signals on their own when passing througha balance-coil metal detector, even when not contaminated withmetal. Metal detection methods for these cases necessarily involvesignal processing strategies. Standard versions of these strategiesusually take only the values of the detection signals into accountbut not their shape, i.e. not the order in which these valuesappear. In this paper, we develop a method able to improve metaldetection sensitivity by appropriately taking detection signal?shape? into account. This requires a strategy for achievingsynchronization between the signals corresponding to differentitems passing through the detector.
