Resumen:
Among globally distributed agents, canine vector-borne pathogens (CVBP)comprise a relevant group of agents transmitted by arthropods. The increased mobility and worldwide distribution of pets has resulted in a rapidextension of some arthropod vectors and the pathogens they transmit. Wild carnivores can also harbor several arthropod species, most of which are shared with domestic dogs and cats. Very little is known about the presence of these CVBP in Chile, with no information available for wild foxes. Andean or culpeo (Lycalopex culpaeus) and chilla (L. griseus) foxes are abundant in most of the country, and thrive in human-dominated landscapes such as those in central Chile.
