Resumen:
The Hippo signaling pathway is one of the most important regulators of tissuegrowth and organ size. Despite the relevant role that the Hippo signaling pathwayplays in the keratinocytes, the sta te of the activation of its main downstreameffector YAP during the canine epidermal morphogenesis is still unknown. Thepresent study describes the immunohistochemical expression pattern of YAP inskin samples of canine fetuses at different developmental stages using a tissuemicroarray. YAP immunodetection showed a high number of positive epidermalcells with a cytoplasmic expression pattern in cells of the basal stratum during theearly stages of the epidermal differentiation program. In contrast, late s tagessamples showed a cytoplasmic expression pattern for YAP in cells of the uppergranular stratum. In postnatal canine epidermis, the dominant YAP activity is in thehighly differentiated granular keratinocytes. These findings suggest that the Hipposig nalling effector YAP may play an important role in the regulation of proliferationduring the early stages of epidermal barrier formation, whereas it may play a keyrole in the keratinocyte differentiation during the late stages of canine epidermisdevelop ment.
