Resumen:
HHV-8 genotypes are distributed worldwide exhibiting a pattern that correlates well with ethnic and geographic ancestry in different human populations. Argentina presents a wide spectrum of genetic admixture from Native American communities, Europe and Africa. There is still scarce data regarding the molecular epidemiology of HHV-8 in this country. In order to characterize HHV-8 genotypes in two regions of Argentina (metropolitan -MET- and northwestern -NW-) with different ancestry components and to study their potential association with genetic ancestry, 615 HIV(+) individuals, Kaposi?s sarcoma (KS) patients and blood donors were recruited. HHV-8 genotypes were assigned by analysis of ORF26 and ORFK1. Genetic ancestry was determined by ancestry-sensitive DNA markers from autosomal, Y and mitochondrial chromosomes. P-values
