Resumen:
This work presents a technological development: the automation process of a electric commercial wheelchair. Specifically, an electronic system was developed to replace the joystick of the wheelchair. Therefore, the wheelchair received the commands emitted from a computer. Then, a human-machine interface (HMI) should be able to control the velocities of the wheelchair. A HMI is a system based on biomedical signals measured from the brain, muscles, etc.; and, consequently handicapped people may command the wheelchair using a HMI. The current work evaluated different approaches to develop a robotic wheelchair. The process followed in order to automate the wheelchair, the first prototype and thetests are presented in this paper.
