Resumen:
Gliomas are brain and spinal cord tumors originated from glial cells. Brain tumors treatment is difficult since the blood brain barrier prevents the uptake of most pharmaceuticals. Thus, the challenge remains to develop new therapies with the potential to counteract this devastating disease. Hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2; HAP) is an essential component of the human bone inorganic phase. Nanoscaled HAP (nHAP) presents emergent properties in comparison to its bulk counterpart, including an inhibitory effect on the proliferation of some types of tumor cells. In this study, we aimed to determine the possible role of nHAP as an anticancer agent employing C6 glioma cells. Exposure to nHAP (24-72h, 50-500µg/ml)induced cell death measured by MTT assay (72h- 50µg/ml: 21±2%; 100µg/ml: 31±1%; 200 µg/ml: 28±2%; 500µg/ml: 29±1%; p
