Comparison Between PCA and WT Filtering Methods for Lightning Stroke Classification on Transmission Lines

In this paper, a comparative study of the advantagesand disadvantages of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) andWavelet Transform (WT) based methods combined with aArtificial Neural Network (ANN) classifier for the lightningstroke classification is presented. Results show that bothtechniques present an acceptable performance. However, PCAtechnique presents some advantages with respect to the WaveletTransform technique.
