Resumen:
The subgenus Anachyris of the genus Paspalum includes six species distributed from Mexico to South America. The aim of this work was to enlarge the number of collections of these species for South America and beside that to know their ploidy levels. Plants of Paspalum costellatum Swallen, P. malacophyllum Trin., P. procurrens Quarin and P. volcanensis Zuloaga, Morrone & Denham were collected in central and northwestern Argentina, southeastern Bolivia, and the central region of Brazil. Ploidy levels were measured by flow cytometry in twelve populations. The distribution maps for the different species and cytotypes were made using the DIVA-GIS software. Sixty accessions of P. malacophyllum, four of P. volcanensis, three of P. procurrens, and one of P. costellatum were obtained. One accession of P. costellatum and another one of P. procurrens were diploid (2x), while nine accessions of P. malacophyllum and one of P. volcanensis were tetraploid (4x). The diploid accession of P. costellatum was obtained in state of Goias, Brazil, while the diploid one of P. procurrens was collected in Salta, Argentina. Tetraploid accessions of P. malacophyllum were obtained from the province of Catamarca, Jujuy, Santiago del Estero, Salta and Tucuman in Argentina, and from the Departments of Chuquisaca, Santa Cruz de la Sierra and Tarija in Bolivia. The ploidy level of P. costellatum represents the first record for this specie. Species distribution patterns observed for P. malacophyllum, P. procurrens and P. volcanensis confirm previous reports and expand the geographic ranges of each cytotype in South America.
