This paper aims to contribute to the conceptual discussions about regionalism, regional integration and region-building processes by focusing on how regionalism shapes national policy making. By assessing regional arrangements of the Global South, we develop a comparative analysis of regional social policies and how diffusion mechanisms operates. We argue that regional projects relates to how developmental claims unfolds, the overall institutional and policy-making rules and how intra-regional and intra-national asymmetries are tackled. We built or conceptual framework by taking stock of current theories and specially the tools provided by the framework of regulatory regionalism and policy diffusion
