Resumen:
In order to obtain active supported catalysts for the combustion of diesel soot, ceria and zirconia ceramic fibers were synthesized. Cerium oxide nano and microfibers were prepared both by hydrothermal synthesis and by electrospinning synthesis; whereas nanorods of zirconium oxide were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis. To date, many catalysts for the catalytic combustion of soot have been tested, but in particular the morphology enhances the contact between the soot and the catalyst, resulting in better catalytic activity. Goodactivity was obtained for ceria supports obtained by hydrothermal synthesis (maximum combustion rate at TM ), whereas fibers synthesized by electrospinning resulted still better, being TM On the ceria/zirconia supports the deposition of Co3O4 was carried out by wet impregnation. The addition of 2 wt. % Co to the ceria support improved the catalytic activity, but no differences in activity were observed when increasing the amount of cobalt loaded from 2wt. Co to 12 wt.% Co. In contrast, the zirconia nanostructures with 12 wt. % Co showed better catalytic activity (TM than samples containing 2 wt. % Co. The goodcatalytic activity of both Co-supported catalysts makes it interesting to deposit them on suitable substrates for their use as particulate diesel filters.
