Resumen:
Alloysia Polystachya (AP) is an aromatic native plant of Verbenaceaefamily which is widely distributed in subtropical regions ofSouth America and the North of Argentine. Therapeutic uses of thisand other species of Alloysia include febrifuge, sedative, stomachic, diuretic, and antispasmodic activities. Moreover, previous studieshave demonstrated the anti-metastasic effects of thujone (part of itschemical composition) in melanoma. We have previously demonstratedthat cells overexpressing RAC3 are more resistant to celldeath, autophagy and senescence induced by several stimuli. Beingthis molecule overexpressed in several tumors, the aim of this workwas to investigate the putative anti-tumoral effects of AP extract incell lines that naturally (tumoral) or by transfection (non tumoral)overexpress RAC3. For this purpose, we prepared AP hydro-alcoholicextracts (APE) that were assayed over different cell lines. Wefound that APE (dilutions 1/30 to 1/2000) induced a significant inhibitionof cell number after 24h of treatment in human tumor cell lines(HeLa, HCT116, T47D) and the non-tumoral HEK293 overexpressingRAC3, as determined by crystal violet staining (p
