Resumen:
Leukocytes are immune cells which may be present in human milk depending on different conditions, such as mastitis and systemic inflammation. Since this has been implicated in the etiophysiopathogeny of chronic non-communicable diseases (CNCD) of family occurrence (cancer, metabolic syndrome), the objective of this investigation was to determine changes in the level of milk leukocytes and their viability, according to the presence or absence of a family history of CNCD. A pilot study was conducted from March to June 2017, with 12 breastfeeding, healthy adult Argentinian volunteers from Córdoba (mean age=26,75 years), during the first six months postpartum (observational, cross-sectional design). Leukocytes were obtained by centrifugation of fresh milk. Their concentration was calculated by automated hemocytometry and their viability by measuring the mithocondrial membrane potential, using the 3,3'-dihexyloxacarbocyanine Iodide probe. Data were analyzed using MANOVA, adjusting for age and time since delivery. A higher level of leukocytes was found in the group of women with a family history of CNCD (mean= 3950 leukocytes/?L) compared to those with no family history of CNCD (mean= 396,67 leukocytes/?L) (p
