Follicular persistence and COD are causes of reproductivealterations in dairy cattle. In the ovary the bone morphogeneticproteins (BMPs) are expressed in granulosa cells (GC) andtheca cells (TC), and have important actions during folliculardevelopment through binding to a high affinity heterotetramericcomplex of type I and type II receptors. Our objective was tostudy the immunolocalization of BMP receptor 1B (BMPR1B) inthe ovaries of healthy cows and animals with spontaneous orACTH induced COD. In addition, we evaluated the expressionof BMPR1B in an experimental model of follicular persistence inducedby low levels of progesterone. In all groups we determine dthe expression of BMPR1B by indirect immunohistochemistryand digital image analysis in different follicular categories.
