Characterization of precipitation extremes in Southeastern South America

Significant trends in precipitation and temperature have been observed inSoutheastern South America (SESA) together with changes in climatevariability and in extreme events. Such changes have significantenvironmental and social impacts. Therefore it is critical to understand thenature of these climate extremes. In this work precipitation extremes willbe characterized using different precipitation data bases: observed datafrom meteorological stations, TRMM data and GPCP. Jointly theassociated synoptic environment will be analyzed with ERA Interimreanalyses. This characterization will be used in future analyses forcomparisons with RCMs and ESD simulations.
