International Diabetes Management Practice Survey (IDMPS): Determinants for achieving therapeutic goals in people with type 2 diabetes in Argentina

Introduction: IDMPS is a multinational observational survey to collect, analyze and disseminate data on diabetes treatment. It is a five year study (2006-2012) with five annual waves. Objective: To describe in the five waves in Argentina, A1c levels and type of treatment in people with type 2 diabetes attended by medical diabetologists and non-diabetologists. Materials and methods: Observational study of 2719 participants with waves consisting of a 2-week cross-sectional and a 9-month longitudinal survey. Clinical, metabolic and therapeutic profiles were analyzed. Results are presented as mean ± standard deviation (SD) or proportions. The results are expressed in the minimum-maximum value corresponding to the 5 waves. Results: 87-90% are urban cases, 86-94% with health coverage and 87-100% seen by diabetologists. Mean age was 62±0 -65 ±10 years, 46-53% were female, with 9±8- 12±9 years of diabetes duration. 0-11% of the patients were treated with life style changes reaching A1c goal (
