Resumen:
Drug administration is one of the main medical error sources. To reduce the risk it is recommended the use of electronic medication administration record (eMAR) linked to Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Additionally it is suggested to use "smart" infusion pumps with Dose Error Reduction (DER) systems inside. The best solution would be the integration of all previous components as a whole closed-loop system able to activate warnings and alarms to prevent or act on such an medical error while it is going on. This article describe the tentative structure and initial steps of development of that closed loop system in the Hospital Italiano of Buenos Aires.
