Resumen:
The participants in this bilateral workshop come from a region characterized by uncertainties in precipitation frequency and magnitude, occurrence of intense droughts and also eventual floods, high mean temperatures and soils prone to degradation. These features, all of which impact negatively on crop potential yield and quality, are predicted to be aggravated in a scenario of climate change. Plant scientists focusing on local problems can make significant contributions to mitigate current and expected losses in crop yield and food security. The development of germplasm with adaptation to these environments requires a critical assessment of experimental data and re-thinking the priorities of crop science research.
