Resumen:
Both right-wing authoritarianism (RWA, Altemeyer, 1996) and social dominanceorientation (SDO, Sidanius & Pratto, 1999) have quite distinct psychological features (Duckitt & Sibley, 2017). SDO is viewed to the extent that one desires that one's group dominate and be superior to out-groups (Pratto et al., 1994) while RWA emphasizes submission to authority figures of inner groups. Although there are studies analyzing the relationship between SDO, RWA and personality, no study has been conducted in Latin American region. We examined how Big Six personality traits correlates with SDO and RWA in a sample of Argentinean participants (N = 1145. Age = 40.76, SD = 14.30, 48.3% men and 51.7% women) obtained in the frame of a cross-cultural research directed by James Liu. SDO is predicted positively by extraversion and negatively by agreeableness, openness to experience and honesty-humility (R2 corrected = .141). RWA is predictedpositively by conscientiousness and negatively by openness to change (R2 corrected = .088). Significant sex differences were noted with respect to SDO, RWA and some personality traits: women score highly in agreeableness, openness to experience and honesty-humility while men score highly in emotional stability, SDO and RWA. Older participants score highly in RWA and all personality traits but openness to experience in which younger people tend to have higher scores. We discuss results in the context of the latest publications on the subject.
