Resumen:
Cutaneous Leishmaniasis is an endemic disease that affects millions of people worldwide. It is one of the five most widespread orphan diseases in Latin America in particular. In Argentina, it has traditionally been found mainly in the tropical/subtropical regions in the North-East of the country. This is however changing, with the vector and the disease being found, in the last few years, also in regions further South in the country and reaching the province of Córdoba. The reasons for the spreading of the disease are multiple and not straightforward to control. I will discuss the available methods for treatment and the new treatments being developed, in particular topical treatments. I will briefly present our own efforts in the field.
