Resumen:
Sliding friction between hard surfaces and soft ma-terials is a fundamental issue in many practical situationssuch as tire design and touch feeling. These processesinvolve very different and interacting properties such asadhesion, viscoelasticity and the surfaces geometry. Twofundamental issues in the friction of viscoelastic rubberswith rough surfaces are: (i), the determination of the ve-locity dependent distribution of micro-contacts within theinterface during the sliding process which determines thevariation of the contact area between the surfaces. (ii), themanner in which individual micro-contacts locally dissi-pate energy, as a result of viscoelastic losses.
