Secreción de Carbohidratos extracelulares por comunidades microbianas en sedimentos supramareales del Estuario de Bahía Blanca (Argentina).

For the present study sediment samples were collected from three sites in the area supratidal tidal Puerto Rosales, intermediate sector of Bahía Blanca Estuary, where microbial mats develop. For analysis of extracellular carbohydrates two fractions operationally defined, according to the extraction method employed, were extracted sequentially, in colloidal (water-soluble), and capsular (EDTA-soluble). Considering the contribution of the two fractions to the total EPS, the results show for the surface layer of sediment (0-5 mm) variable contributions of colloidal fraction (FC), while the subsurface layer (5-10 mm) the capsular fraction was predominant in the three sites along the study period. The variability observed in the FC could be associated with the frequency of flood plain and also consumption by microorganisms.
