Resumen:
This paper seeks to answer the question about how the process of constitution of IR as an autonomous field was developed in Argentina. On the one hand, it seeks to explore the origins of the field in Argentina, to reflect on how its particular history has led to a discipline with the characteristics that it possesses at present. On the other hand, it intends to identify the theoretical and methodological contributions sketched from Argentina to contribute to a more universal and inclusive IR study that allows to delineate a global IR agenda. The history of Argentine IRs is addressed through the observation and analysis of the different approaches that converge in the constitution of a specialized knowledge of international affairs. Public International Law, Diplomacy, Geopolitics, Political Economy and Foreign Policy, contributed to think the international reality from their own specificities. The period to be analyzed goes from 1889, when the First Pan-American Conference was held in Washington, DC; until 1990, when the field was already stablished and autonomous. The study will not be addressed chronologically and linearly, but rather analyzing "strong moments" of the complex, multidimensional and never linear process of institutionalization of an academic field.
