Resumen:
The objective of the present study is to measure the physiological cost index (PCI) and the total heart rate index (THBI) and compare its repeatability. The subjects studied wereten adults with no lesions that condition their gait. They measured the heart rate while walking under stationary conditions. The tests to determine the indices were carried out inthe gymnasium of the national university of Entre Ríos, in the locality of Oro Verde. The results obtained indicate that the THBI index, calculated by dividing the number of total beats during the gait phase between the average velocity of the individual during that phase, presents good repeatability (intraclass correlation index of 0.842) compared to the PCI index intraclass correlation of 0.452). It is concluded that THBI is a simple parameter to calculate from continuous heart rate data and provides a reproducible alternative to the PCI.
