Abstract: The present work has investigated the cyclic behaviour of a duplex stainless steel type DIN W. Nr 1.4460 in the temperature range of 473K and 773K. The pronounced increase of cyclic hardening rate at 573K and 673K and the inverse dependence of the peak tensile stress with strain rate exhibited by this steel are manifestations of DSA (Dynamic Strain Aging). The dislocation structure observed would suggest that the ferritic phase have a preponderant role in the cyclic response in the DSA temperature range. This assumption is consistent with a similar cyclic behaviour displayed by this steel and a ferritic AISI 430F. In order to evaluate the influence of the nitrogen content in duplex stainless steels, cyclic tests were performed at 673K and 748K for a superduplex stainless steel SAF 2507.The present work has investigated the cyclic behaviour of a duplex stainless steel type DIN W.
