Resumen:
The rapid prototyping concept is presented with focus in two particular software suites. The first one is Matlab?RTW?xPC Target, a closed source package from The Mathwoks Inc.. The secondone is the combination of Linux?RTAI, Scilab/Scicos and Comedi, all open source software packages. A survey of both solutions is carried out as well as an examination of the pros & cons of using closed source and open source software packages. Focus is also on the use of Real Time Operating Systems for control.
