Resumen:
The San Jorge Gulf (45° - 47°S, Argentina) is part of the Patagonian Shelf Large Marine Ecosystem, in the Atlantic coast of South America, one of the most productive marine regions of the world. Benthic biodiversity in the San Jorge Gulf is characterized by the presence of a high diversity of habitats and species. In the present study, the spatial distribution of benthic biodiversity in San Jorge Gulf is described considering taxonomic and functional diversity. Data collected with trawl and box corer sampling methods were analyzed. Functional traits explored include bioturbation mode, feeding strategies, size and mobility. Cluster analysis highlighted five communities on trawl samples and four on boxcorer samples. Their spatial distribution revealed that headlands are composed of filter and opportunist feeders, while central region is characterised by deposit and opportunist feeders. However, α, γ, βindexes of diversity identified high variation within and between communities.
