Resumen:
Wind energy production capabilities has been growing fast during the last years in Argentina which increases the need for reliable wind forecasts over the region, in particular up to 48 hours lead time. This motivated an increase in research activities related to wind forecasting and generated active collaborations between the academia and the private sector. In this work we will describe the development and implementation of an hybrid short range wind forecasting system that combines pure statistical forecasts and numerical weather prediction. The forecast system was evaluated over one year period over Northern Patagonia. The implementation of the system over this challenging area produced encouraging results and is currently being implemented operationally.Future perspectives and the potential use of high-resolution data assimilation will be also discussed.
